Design It!

Using publicly available digital tools that have simple, intuitive interfaces, WBTC begins with designing buildings for use in the game. We have outlined two digital techniques that work well in conjunction with the next section of our site (Build It!)

1. Minecraft – Minecraft is a digital building game played by millions around the world. Players can create build an object or building at any scale they wish. You will need a paid copy of Minecraft ($20) to create a building. To fit on the game board, the building should have a perfect square base (e.g. 10x10 blocks) on flat ground. Simply create a new world in creative mode to get started with all of the building materials you need.

2. The Lego Digital Designer. Like Minecraft, the Lego Digital Designer is a tool for people to build their own virtual three-dimensional models, save them and then build them. This is a better option if you’re not keen on spending money on Minecraft or 3D printing. Opening the file in the designer also creates a virtual building manual - it even tells you what pieces you’ll need to create your designs in real life. To fit on the game board, the building should have a perfect square base (e.g. 10 x 10 blocks) on flat ground.
